Film Night at Fourteenfifteen

Places in Pieces, vol. 4, by Jason Pappariella, picks up where the series left off in 2011, as a non-narrative, regionally-focused document.  This installment makes its way across Eastern and Central Europe, moth-tracking from the Baltics to the Balkans, and fluttering about the Caucasus region.  Specters inhabit this contemporary landscape, as the familiarity of the common place is rendered invisible, ghostly, in the context of the motions of daily life.  With a curiosity for the ordinary, Places in Pieces gives attention to the discarded, and to the observation of quiet, contemplative moments. The film score, by Adam Parks (Lighting White Bison), is similarly composed of field recordings, found material and incidental improvisations, and is performed as a live accompaniment to the film on manipulated 4-track recorder.
